This report just in from one of our regular visitors who is on a trip of a lifetime around the north west of Australia for a few months. A very good trout fly fisherman and looks like he can catch them in the salt as well.
New Goulburn report to come later tonight......see Jack's email below......
Hey Antony,
I hope you got the photo of that bonefish. I accidentally pressed send o the first email so I didn’t write what I wanted. Got it at near Exmouth with a mate who is a local. They are hard to spot (have to look for a grey smudge with silver flashes) missed one take on first cast to a school and thought I had missed my chance so I changed down to a 12lb tippet and size 4 gotcha tied by myself. A long cast into a big school with rio outbound sink tip, count to 10 or until it sinks to the bottom, then 2 fast strips and then pause then two more strips then BANG.
Now don’t listen to what everybody says about deep water bones not fighting cos its rubbish as this fish made several extremely fast runs that took a lot of backing. Even though I went extremely hard on the fish it still took a fair while to land.
Hope you like, see you next season.
Cheers from Jack
