The Goulburn is now on its way down and without speaking with people at GMW to confirm it looks as though the plan was to get as much water out of the lake as possible before the official end of the irrigation season. The river is now 5200 MLD and on its way down to 4800. Hopefully it will continue to drop and give us a good month of fishing from now until the end of the season.
Today the guys hooked some nice fish on the Goulburn and David is back out floating it with Annella now that his guide job for the day is over. Hopefully he will return bearing good news; a strong possibillity given the fact that the flows have been almos halved. A cold wind is now blowing and I think there may be some showers tonight which is always a good sign of a possible dun hatch at this time of year.
I have been loathe to report of late due to the escape of fish from one of the fish farms. Apparently a wombat got beneath the form work on one of the concrete dams and they lost a lot of brookies and salmon. This in turn has brought up every fish killing arsehole in creation to act out their macho man image fishing to fish farm escapees.
To give you even more of an idea of how I rate it I will explain it this way. Up until the escape I was fishing that stretch of river quite a bit but I have not gone back. You can only imagine the sort of fellas this sort of event brings to the area.
Hopefully the escapees thin out soon and the catch rate declines enough to send these people elsewhere. The problem being that the browns will soon be appearing in the river to spawn and these folks will use everything from nets, to spearguns, to jagging them with trebles.
It's typical weather for mid-late May at the moment but there is some relief in sight. We are lucky that the rain has stayed away for the most part. But there is a cold wind today and it is definitely cooler than average for early May.
I think we have some availability for guides later this week and into the next one (weekend included). Sing out if you are interested. Not long until the season close is upon us so make the most of every opportunity that you get. We are madly trying to fit in our own fishing trips in between work but it's a losing battle as there just aren't enough hours in the day rig right now.
Good luck if you get out. If you are hitting the and own an iPhone, go to the app store and download the Victorian Fisheries app so that you can report any illegal fishing that is going on i.e. breaches of the bag & size limit. The rules are five fish of which no more than two can be above 35cms.
Cheers
Antony
